Auditory Memory Exercises Can Work Wonders for Improving Your Memory

Have you ever listend to music but been unable to remember what you were just hearing. Have you ever forgotten someone's address just as soon as you were told it. If this sort of thing happens to your frequently, it might be time to start using a few auditory memory exercises to sharpen your mind.

The more often you practice your auditory memory exercises, the better you'll get. Soon, you'll find you no longer have to write things down. You'll hear it once, and it'll be ingrained in your short term memory for a lot longer than you're used to. If you're trying to remember addresses, phone numbers, shopping lists or instructions, this is a great benefit.

Top Ten Countdowns

One good auditory memory exercise is listening to the top ten countdown on your preferred radio station. Don't write the songs down - just try to remember the titles to every song as it's played Then, write the songs down in the order they were played afterward.

As your memory improves, you'll probably find that you can write down the song's title and performer without trying too hard. The best thing about this particular auditory memory exercise is that many radio stations have contests. At the end of the countdown, the person who remembers the list of songs the most successfully wins. That means you have the opportunity to win a little money while you increase the capacity of your short term memory.

Exercises With A Partner

Another kind of auditory memory exercise requires the use of a partner. Have the other person recite some information to you. This could be a shopping list, address, or any other information that would be useful to remember. Then, try to recite back the information you heard exactly. As you work on this, you'll slowly improve and be able to recite back every part of the information without asking for a hint. Just like anything else - the more you practice, the more you'll improve. If you really want to sharpen your memory skills, try this one as frequently as you can.

You can do this without a partner if one's not available. Play a recording of a comedy routine, song, or just about anything else, then try to write down what you're hearing. As you improve, you'll find that you can write down every detail without going back to check if you're right.

You can perform auditory memory exercises anywhere and any time. They're a wonderful idea for anybody who wants to be able to keep track of information for a little longer than usual after hearing it.
